“Even though we got acclaim for the original line back then, in hindsight it really pales in comparison of what we can do today,” McFarlane continues. Our toys had to look better than the giant guys.” “We've survived for so long because we built a better mousetrap. “We didn’t get stuff like Marvel or Star Wars, and we only recently got DC,” McFarlane tells SYFY WIRE. As he told SYFY WIRE ahead of the campaign's launch on April 8, after making dozens of versions of Spawn along with near-countless more supporting characters, variants, and villains through the years, he wanted to do something different this time, releasing a figure without the usual constraints of the toy market. Created by McFarlane in 1992 for Image Comics, Spawn served as the catalyst for McFarlane’s current toy empire.
Spawn kickstarter series#
To mark the 25th anniversary of McFarlane Toys, McFarlane is launching a Kickstarter campaign to remake the company's Series 1 Spawn figures, beginning with the piece of plastic that started it all: the 1995 Series 1 Spawn. That’s not to mention McFarlane’s own cash cow, Spawn. In addition to churning out military, monster, and fantasy figures, the company, led by veteran comic book artist Todd McFarlane, has dabbled with some of the most popular IP in modern culture, including The Walking Dead, Call of Duty, Fortnite, and more recently, the DC Multiverse. You will be able to back the campaign here as find all the updates that include videos from the man himself.Over 25 years, McFarlane Toys has built an empire on producing some of the best collectibles on the market. There are less than 24 hours left so make sure you back yours before it is too late. This will be a figure that any Spawn fan should get behind as it connects fans with the creator on a new level. That is the package I am currently backing as you might not get all of the extra accessories it does include some of the best ones. However, if you just want to say simple and cheap I say go for the classic Spawn package.

It comes with three autographs and all the added head sculpts, weapons, and new necro hand effects. In my opinion, the three-pack are the best of all packages offered.

Spawn kickstarter update#
The second update was the Classic version with now also be getting a painted Necro Sword which was originally only coming with the Black and White Artist Proof figure. This was something McFarlane himself was pretty excited about and now each figure I'll get one.

Spawn kickstarter upgrade#
The newest upgrades affect all of these figures as the first upgrade includes the comic book that comes with each figure will now have foil covers. If you are unaware of the campaign, there are three figures available to back, a classic, modern, and artist proof (unpainted sculpt). From these interactions, we have seen plenty of changes and upgrades since then beginning from added head sculpts, weapons, articulated cape, and more. The McFarlane Team and Todd McFarlane have been listening and interacting with the community over the Spawn giving us an amazing straight to consumer figure. Currently, the pledges are at $2.88 million, and with just over 20 hours left we could see the campaign hit 3 million by the end. The legendary campaign had an original goal of $100,000 but has far succeeded that in just a single day. Over the past month, we have been treated to the ongoing McFarlane Toys Spawn Kickstarter campaign.
